The Extra Sauce is slathered all over these Bill Wharton tunes,. And also a couple of traditional songs are drippin with the stuff. Neal Goree (guitar), Kendrick Jacobs (bass), and Brett Crook (drums) give the album the flavor not unlike my Liquid Summer Hot Sauce. Especially when you dump Liquid Summer into your BBQ sauce. The umami of that hot, sweet and sour, describes the Extra Sauce just fine. Also my long time friend and jammin buddy, David Davidson, supplied string arrangements for two tunes. The cherry on the top of this offering. Kudos, Gentlemen. Order CD's, vinyl, and downloads here

The Tunes:
Burn It Up sets the tone of the tome with a romp on the fryin pan guitar. Yeah, you heard that right. A three string cigar box guitar with two humbuckers in a 9-inch cast iron frying pan makes for a down home blues rock grease fire.
I wouldn't Mind It is a laidback, almost second line kinda feel featuring Neal's wah-wah drenched, tongue in cheek guitar work; a call and response conversation between the singer and his potential co-conspirator. His lead in this tune veers off into psychedelia, like Jerry Garcia on Bourbon Street.
Ce Soir C'est Bon While we're in Lousiana, here's a cajun tune about a fiddle player who captured my heart with her music and her sunny attitude. When you hear, “Sometimes late at night”, with that string quartet playing softly in the background, well…you just gotta hear it.
Mama Don't Allow  A traditional tune mutated into my anti censorship screed. Actually, my mother was very supportive of my music. The local police…not so much.
Try This This brings us to Try This, a funky rock and roll rap. An homage to the healing powers, the stress reliever, the bringer of joy that is music. Yes, “The world id whacked” so here's what to do about it. Go to a concert, play yer guitar, put on some Allman Brothers, some Muddy Waters, some Beatles, some Billy Strings, some Bad Bunny, some Klezmer, some Angine de Poitrine, some Schubert. Whatever floats your boat. Music will heal!
Smile In a Basket  David Davidson brings a small orchestra to accompany me and my guitar on “Smile In a Basket”. Paste that smile on your face and go get em! It may seem crazy to smile in these dark times, but it's a very effective weapon against anxiety and hatred. Everybody needs to see a smile.
Don't Let the Devil Ride is a traditional gospel blues featuring my ‘33 vintage National Steel and Neal’s electric guitar interplay. “He's gonna wanna drive”.
Snugglin With My Baby is an intimate Christmas blues song. “When I'm snugglin with my baby, you know it's Christmas time”.
BBQ is a funky cornicopia of southern cooking with my fav, Your BBQ. It will have you salivating. "I NEEEEEED me some!!!
Next Time You Wonder  All things pass. If you don't see me, if I'm not around, remember what we had together. If you dig deep into your soul, you will find I'm still there. I've been there and I left a piece of me there for you.

Burn It Up* (Bill Wharton)

Hey Mama Burn it up

Daddy found your lovin cup

Come on Mama rock n roll it

Drive that thing like you stole it

Do me right do me wrong

Do your daddy all night long

I wouldn't Mind It (Bill Wharton)

I wouldn't  mind it I wouldn't mind it

I wouldn't  mind it if you did if you did I wouldn't mind it at all

Help me find it I wouldn't mind it

I wouldn't mind it if you help me find it I wouldn't mind it at all

Get behind it I wouldn't mind it

I wouldn't mind it if you finally get behind it wouldn't mind it al al

I didn't mind it

I tried to find it

I got behind it

But I was blinded

Until I wined it

And I dined it

And I shined it

And aligned it

And I signed it

And I defined it

And refined it

I even rhymed it

I wouldn't  mind it I wouldn't mind it

I wouldn't mind it if you did if you did I wouldn't mind it at all

Ce Soir C'est Bon  (Bill Wharton)

Down in Louisiana there’s a girl that I once knew

Her daddy played piana and her mamma sang the blues

She would wail on the violin and dance beneath the moon

And then with a voice of an angel she’d sing a cajun tune

Ce soir c'est bon laissez les bon temps rouler

Ce soir c'est bon gonna be ok

Ce soir c'est bon what a beautiful day

Ce soir c'est bon laissez les bon temps rouler

Yeah we had a time down there where life’s a fais dodo

Hanging on the bayou in her cajun bungalow

Every night was a party every night was a show

Every night she would sing that song and let the good times roll

Ce soir c'est bon laissez les bon temps rouler

Sometimes late at night when the new moon shows a grin

Sometimes she will wake me from within the dream she’s in

From far away she’ll shake me and ask me how you been

And then I hear her singing that cajun tune again

Ce soir c'est bon laissez les bon temps rouler

Momma Don't Allow (Traditional)

Try This  (Bill Wharton, Kendrick Jacobs, Neal Goree, Brett Crook)

So you got it bad they got you way down low

You been had that so and so

Oh so sad that's the way she goes

Bout to make you mad it's about to blow

Try this

You've been hacked it's  the same old song

The world is whacked they done you wrong

It's a fact I knew it all along

What cha gonna do where do you belong

The big bad world is a wicked place

They cut your throat with a smiling face

That's all she wrote they closed the case

Wha cha gonna do for the human race

Double up slap it back this

Whole shebang is out of whack

Trouble up and down the street

This whole shebang goin make me freak

Top to bottom coast to coast

Yeah, we got em overdosed

A million stories diagnosed

They went in good and they came out toast

Got yourself in way too deep

That's a problem up and down the street

Been runnin way too fast

Been using way too much gas

And still about to come in last

It's hard for a man who got a past

You got nothing to show she's about to blow so

What d'ya owe where d'ya go

And after all is said and done

I have sure nuff had my fun

And after all the times I cried it's

Time for me to…

Try this

When you get down low

Try this

If you know you know

Try this

It's the way to go

Try this

When you get down low

Smile in a Basket  (Bill Wharton)

Pick a smile from the basket on your way out the door

Coming or going it don't matter any more

Any kind of occasion any kind of a bore

That's what a smile in a basket's for

A smile in a basket is not a pretty song

Where did I put it, Where did I go wrong

I've got a bunch of em

Take two they're small

I keep one in my pocket 'case it takes us all night long

A smile in a basket  'll get ya  through the day

Don't have to ask it don't have to pay

Don't cost a dime it's free of charge that's what it's for

Pick a smile from the basket on your way out the door

Don't Let the Devil Ride  (Traditional)

Snuggling With My Baby  (Bill Wharton)

I've been singin the blues about this and that

The good times the bad times the skinny and the fat

Sometimes I'm on top sometimes I fall flat

But now It's all good  y'all because of where I'm at

Snugglin with my baby

Snugglin with my baby

When I'm snugglin with my baby

You know it's Christmas time

No need for cryin for cryin out loud

I'm  defyin the overblown crowd

I'm relyin on the love that we have now

Snugglin' with my baby's all I need  to make me proud

No troubled mind  no raging storm

Safe and sound  far away from harm

Let the world go by watch tv eat popcorn

Hol' up in our little place where it's nice and warm

Take that gloom with ya when you leave we

Left it all behind us and now we've

Got no more time to to sit around and grieve

We spend all our time on the gift that we receive

BBQ  (Bill Wharton, Kendrick Jacobs)

I just love your cookin

Them sweet potato yams

I love your cornbread baby

But I’m crazy bout your hams

Crazy bout your hoppin John

And your catfish too

But mostly I'm just crazy baby

Bout your BBQ

I love me some

I want me some

I need me some

Some o your BBQ

Love is like a barbeque

Fallin off the bone

Something about your BBQ

The best I've ever known

Something bout the way you do

Makes it all your own

Crazy bout your BBQ

I can't leave that stuff alone

Slap a side of bacon

Pick them collard greens

Throw some hot sauce in there

You know what I mean

Get it good and greasy

Simmer  it on down

Makin it is easy when ya

Hear that fat back sound

Chicken pork chops okra

Green tomatoes fried

Mac and cheese and black eyed peas and

Mama's pecan pie

Turkey wings and mustard greens

Biscuits on the side

Give me some of your BBQ

And I'll be satisfied

I love me some

Next Time You Wonder (Bill Wharton)

Next time you wonder

Where I went

Remember this day

And the words that I sent

You can see me in the clouds

You can see me in the trees

You can see me in the ocean

In the rocks in the leaves

You can see me in the flowers

That bloom for times like these

You can feel my spirit

Riding on the breeze

Look out the window

Look down the road

Look down into  the very

Bottom of your soul

You know I’ll always be there

Because that’s where I’ve been

I left a part of me there

I’ll be there to the end

Look out the window

Look down the road

Look down into  the very

Bottom of your soul

The Sauce Boss "With Extra Sauce" was released on April 17, 2026. We had some rare moments on this record. It was truly a collaboration between Neal Goree, Kendrick Jacobs, Brett Crook and myself. David Davidson, provided string arrangements on two tunes. There are eight new original tunes and a couple of traditional favorites. You might say this album is slathered.
